Detailed description of each item type in NIO.

A Custom Sheet is a type of sheet format that can be of any closed shape. It can be created with a unique identifier, material and by

When creating items in NIO, a default unique identifier is automatically generated and assigned to the new item.

A Job Material Line is a child item of the nest job, and it is used to define a sheet format and its available quantity for the parent nest job.
![](../../static/job-part-line-detail-view.png)
A Job Part Line is a child item of the nest job, and it is used to define a part and its required quantity for the parent nest job.

A Kit Line is a child item of the kit, and it is used to define an orderable item and its quantity.
![](../../static/ribbon-view-modules-kits.png)
A Kit groups several orderable items like other kits and parts into a single orderable entity defined by a unique identifier.

Materials from the same family or sharing similar properties can be organized using Material Categories
![](../../static/material-side-detail-view.png)
A Material Side is a child item of the material and helps to differentiate one side of a sheet from the other.
![](../../static/material-thickness-detail-view.png)
A Material Thickness is a child item of the material. It is the distance between opposite sides of a material sheet.
![](../../static/ribbon-view-modules-materials.png)
A Material defines what a part is made of. It needs at least one thickness defined and can have as many unique thicknesses as needed.
![](../../static/nest-jobs-detail-view.png)
When launching a nesting operation, the list of required parts is compiled and one Nest Job is created per material.

Nesting operations run in the background and will notify you when they are complete. You can keep using

Nesting Parameters contains all the options used to configure a nesting operation.

The Nest is the result of a nesting operation.
![](../../static/toast-notification.png)
When a nesting operation completes, NIO will temporarily show a toast notification in the bottom right corner of the application.

An Order Line is a child item of the order, and it is used to define an orderable item and its quantity.

An Order is a list of items and quantities to be produced. To be nestable, an order must at least contain one line.

A Part is the main type of part in NIO. It can be created with a unique identifier, material, and by
![](../../static/ribbon-view-modules-part-constraints.png)
Part Constraints are the parameters used to restrict the degrees of freedom of a part in a nesting operation.
![](../../static/ribbon-view-modules-parts.png)
A Part defines an item that can be nested and produced on a flat sheet of material. NIO supports two types of

Certain text properties of NIO can be restricted to a defined set of values. Those can be customized in the

A Rectangular Part is a type of part. It can easily be created with only a unique identifier, material, length, and width.

A Rectangular Sheet is the most common type of sheet format. It can easily be created with only a unique identifier, material, length, and width.

A Sheet Format is the shape and size of a specific material at a specific thickness.
